READ ME FIRST: I put in a significant amount of resources upgrading a legacy Macintosh G4 System to make it an "FF-Class" G4 system.

A note to all - be careful how much money you invest into old, legacy system. Sometimes it is just not worth it. I do collect computers, and I like to extend their life and their usefulness.

I had posted this video as a response to David, TheCreativeOne. This is how we started our dialogue, which evolved to a good friendship. Shout out to you, David! You can visit his YouTube page at www.youtube.com/thecreativeone

  • Hi!, awesome video, man i just got a PowerMac G4 2x 867 mhz 2GB ram 60 Gb Hard Drive... i just installed leopard on it and its really slowingdown. With tiger was just ok, but i need leopard for certain apps The video card it has its a sad Geforce MX 4 with 32 mb of video memory... i just searched today and i found a flashed video card (Geforce FX 5200) with 256 MB of video memory, AGP with 1 VGA output... its worth it? i mean, if i install it on my machine the performance will improve? thanks!!

  • @EgEmDark Leopard does have more overhead and also puts more of demand on the video card; yes, an upgraded card will make that machine snappier, without any doubt; I have heard of people flashing PC based cards with success; do your research on the reseller and if you have the money to burn, and you are making good use of that machine, do it; if not, go BACK to Tiger which is what I STILL RUN on this G4 system.

  • Alfred, do you still have this computer? It's a pretty beeft G4, so I hope it's still running strong. I have a Mirrored Drive Door that I absolutely refuse to get rid of despite a flaky power supply and a new computer.

  • @annietart Wow, what timing on this comment. YES, the G4 is still running, it hosts the DROBO, and I sync my iPhone 3GS to it. I'm still weaning myself off the system. As a matter of fact, I purchased a MDD so I can have a newer system that will still run OS9. You'll be seeing a video from Adam B and I, possibly entitled "Mirror Mirror." Stay tuned...

  • haha peripherables.

  • @KingofComputing LOL you caught that one - LOL good marble mouth on my part!

  • @adiblasi I Have a Mac Older Then Your G4 A iMac G3 Bondi Blue With 32MB of Physical Ram and 512MB of Virtual Ram

  • This was the first time I heard Alfred say, "Peripherabals". Now I even say it sometimes.

  • But i know exactly what you mean with these legacy systems. I have a macbook pro 2.4ghz maxed out, and i am still dumping money into the G4 just for the hell of it! lol ...and i know i'll use it as a storage option and itunes streamer with 10.5.8, and itll do 2560x1600 on my 30" dell now with that 9600 pro upgrade :D Now all i need is an apple keyboard!! :( They're just so pretty and still capable of doing most daily tasks. Im impressed you game on that thing instead of your mac pro hhaha! :)

  • Dude this video is hilarious, great job on figuring it out though!! And hey is that a 23" or a 20" cinema display?? I have a G4 MDD 1.25ghz/1gb/120gb hdd/no airport/combo that i picked up for ...wait for it ...$40!!! :D ahhh craigslist, i love you ..sometimes lol. first is another 1gb ram, and I already upgraded to a 9600 pro 256mb radeon mac edition for $55 shipped, and plan on getting a 1.42ghz dual upgrade board for it, theyre like $70-100 on ebay. After that, maybe a sata card ;)

  • @kilplayer ...Morbidly Obese Fuck ?? LOL! :P ...MOF-Class!

  • I want to upgrade my G4 system which is running the Stinkey Ol' Mac OS X 10.1 OS on it! It just sings Hi Ho when I run basic programs on it, but I need Firefox or Safari, but to my surprise, it runs Internet Explorer 5.1! Anyone know what I could do?

Oh, IDK the Processor speed, but I definitely know that it has a weird number of ram in it, it says it has 264 MB of ram, but I would've expected it to be 256 MB, but I don't care, it boots up right, and i'm happy! !:D
