@mrssummit49 Usually chickens will return to there coop or house when it starts to get dark.. I have a very large fenced in area.. But the fence is only about 3 ft high with no top... So they fly out all the time but there always in for the night when i come to shut them in.

Before you buy or raise any Chickens PLEASE DO YOUR HOMEWORK and know what all you need to do before getting any and be sure to buy only what you have the space for.

i have hens that lay to eggs ever 20 hours amd they are normal rir hens
-
hens lay eggs about every 27 hours, so his egg production is ok.
From a Viewer:
I've raised chickens ... produce eggs all winter long with out any kind of light other than natural sun light.
Your roosts for them should start 12 inches(at least) off the floor and can extend as high as 5FT.
They "fly" down to the floor, so they won't hurt themselves.
I have 50 hens and six roosters, so I know.
Chickens don't always lay everyday depending on the breed.
If that fellow ever wants chicks ., then he will need a rooster and a broody hen to sit the eggs.
