B5 audi s4 sloppy shifter broken linkage

Symptoms were when in gear there was forward and back slop about 2-3 inches of slop when in gear... Sometimes when braking really hard or hitting big bumps I'll lose my gears and to get them back I'd have to shift hard into 6th 4th or 3rd to get it back.

@TheHighroller88 Yes, stock shifter. but 187k miles. it was a fairly easy fix just needed to be crafty with tools... Shifting is back to perfect...

so 116 miles then ? or thousands ? weer u hard on her ?

@TheHighroller88 187,xxx miles... (thousands lol) Hard on her, sort of I do drive aggressive here and there a lot more than a normal driver would. I actually put the car to use... Check your linkages as they can cripple you if they were to break.

So what's the best method with out a lift to change the linkage
