For those unfamiliar with the Albany, New York area, the University at Albany, also known as SUNY Albany, State University of New York at Albany and various others sits on the outskirts of the city limits. The university resides on land that once belonged to the Albany Country Club, which was later bought out by the state in order to expand the university system during the Nelson Rockefeller era.
The State Normal School, 1844 name for the University at Albany, location was placed directly among downtown Albany. In 1966 the first classes for students were held on the uptown campus, which is considered the main campus to even this day.
Documentary examining the relationship between the State University of New York at Albany (SUNY Albany) and the city of Albany, New York.
Starting with the construction of the uptown campus in the late 1960s and moving toward present time, while hitting key decades that significantly effected the 'relationship.'
This is a solo project done entirely by Michael Sylvester for the documentary department at the University at Albany.
