I hope you guys enjoy this Video and that it can help some of you guys with actually drifting on ID5. Unlike the people who downshift to second and slow down to 70kph before even entering the freakin turn. If you master my way of drifting you will be able to instantly beat every stage and go through turns at 90kph and higher! For example the first turn on Akina. I will add exact details of how later on. But in a nut shell the trick is to keep driving like you did in ID4 but with slightly more braking and a different shifting method similar to ID3.
Before explaining how my method works I would just like to differentiate between Grip Style and Drift Style.

In grip style the idea is to completely eliminate acceleration penalty by completing "perfect turns" at very low speeds and then shooting off like a rocket at completion of turns. What happens is you just hit the brakes, shift down to second before even entering the turn, and go through at 60-70kph then proceed to accelerating at the exit. (kinda like ID3) This works but frankly I'm against it because it is not drifting. Which of course is the whole purpose of the game.

I will be using FD3S for my explanations, the reason so is because it is powered by a Rotary Twin Turbo and it doesn't rev inconsistently like Reciprocating/piston Turbo cars. More like a NA piston car and very smooth.

Here is the break down for my method. Try to drive like you used to in ID4 but only line wise. Reduce the side G's as much as possible by taking a wide and "smooth as possible" turns and Apexing a little farther down the turn. As for the brake timing that will vary based on the car you drive such as a GTR33 a big and heavy car vs our very popular AE86.

Upon nearing a turn follow the "smoothest" line apexing only when possible and lower your speed using your brakes and not your transmission to about 85-90 depending on the turn. Not all turns will need to be this slow. Keep that in mind.

Right after entry, time your down shifting so you will end up in 3rd gear and start to release the brake pedal and start stepping on the gas nearing the Apex. This is important because being in third gear will give enough torque to initiate your drift and give you your angle plus maintain your speed but not accelerate into a spin.

Right when passing the Apex down shift to 2nd gear now with you foot still fully on the gas and you wheels should start to grip and shoot you forward. If you did not do the before mentioned correctly it can cause you to spin even more. This is usually caused by too much angle or speed.

Now you are exiting and in 2nd gear and your revs should be very close if not already bouncing in the red. This is important part because your have the most torque at the end of the RPM range and will give you a better acceleration and allow you to shift to 3rd almost instantly at the exit! Plus you will not receive Acceleration Penalty because you did brake, you did slide, and you shouldn't have hit any walls hard enough to spark. Although Ive noticed that just touching the walls will not cause Accel Penalty. Especially if you touch the walls with your rear end.

  • @gokuhatake Lol no I live in CA about an hour south of SF in Cupertino. I go to this arcade place called Golfland USA sunnyvale. They have two ID5 machines there. Im currently now a S3 class and hold many records on the machines. My times are about 5 secs slower then the world records on all tracks, on average.

  • can you drive that way stock....? im not asking as a matter of help, im saying is that possible for you?

  • @gokuhatake Yes I do this in stock cars and my time are only 2 sec slower on ave compared to full tune cars, and my times are far better now, Ive been experimenting and there have been a few changes made in the way I drive now but I do 3:13 on akina DH not even trying, and 3:08 on happo outbound to name a few.
