    Actually an excellent answer. Perhaps I should return to a previous example that was abandoned. Some think that the Eucharist is an absolute necessity of the Christian faith and that it is really Christ present in the sacrament (per Jesus equating it with his body, and saying that those who do not eat "do not have life in them" Jn 6:53) but others refer to OT prohibitions against eating flesh, and say that Jesus' words are symbolic (Dt 12:23). This seems like no small matter; how is it resolved?

    I read the scriptures daily, and have read the NT through several times. Still a Catholic.

    Sorry, one more verse.

    2 Corinthians 1:13 "For we write nothing else to you than what you read and understand, and I hope you will understand until the end;

    The Corinthian letters are written to "the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours"

    That those who are believers in Christ, who have put the faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord.

    Question:- Have you ever read through the whole New Testament through for yourself? Try doing a summary of each chapter asking the question-"What is the Gospel that Jesus and his Apostles taught?"

    That's(2Peter 1:20). Peter is not talking about interpreting Scripture. He is talking about speaking Scripture into being. v21" for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the H. S. spoke from God."

    He is talking about his own authority & that given to the Apostles to speak the Word of God into being by the power of the H.S..

    v19 "So we(the Apostles) have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place.."

    Peter's letters are written to "those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God & Saviour, JC.. 2Peter3:15.."wrote to you"- To the believers in Christ. They are the ones who are supposed to read these letters. Try reading all the salutations & closings to all the books of the NT. For example:-

    Col 4:16 ..when this letter is read among you, have it also read in the church of the Laodiceans & you for your part read my letter that is coming from Laodicea.

    You know all the pet RC verses but you need to read them in context. (2 Peter 3:15-16). Firstly, Peter acknowledges that Paul has written "scripture". Secondly, it is the untaught and the unstable who distort the scriptures. The believer is to "be on your guard lest, being carried away by error.." we are not to be influenced by these people. Thus we need a good grasp of the Scripture for ourselves. We are to "grow in the knowledge of our Lord & Saviour". How do we do that? By studying his Word.
