I lost two friends to rare cancers within a few years of leaving here. Both in their 30s. Several others have been diagnosed with cancer also but survived. I am safe so far but only worked here and lived elsewhere. A travesty.

When I was serving at that base, i remember that incinerator, and it really stunk bad. Yeah, it is a travesty to have it so near to the Naval housing. And to think, the military wants to keep you safe, but with this they could care less about the long term effects. it is near the golf course to, right? Towards the end of the tarmac?

OMG! I lived there for about six years, then moved to Yokosuka. Huge difference in air quality.

i lived in that tower with my kids for three years. the smell in the mornings and at late night was bad! very bad!
The Navy knew for years, (1988) that this smoke flowing towards these apartments on NAF Atsugi Base was filled with DIOXIN, PCB, VOC and other toxic chemicals that exceeded Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCL), but the Navy continued to send families with small children and house them in toxic filled apartments.
While we lived at NAF Atsugi the Navy or the doctors at Atsugi's Clinic or Yokosuka Hospital didn't tell us our children were suffering because of the toxic smoke!
