I used to have a Hummin Cummins truckers hat, lost it somewhere. I had 2 more that refered to a Cat and a Detroit, but the Cummins hat was my preference at 8 years old.
My Dad always had Cummins in his trucks.
I gotta tell ya, truckin' in the 70's was the shiznit!
hi there i always thought that all cummins engines were red and the cat engines were yellow, just curious. then again i`m going by the newer kenworths, like the k104, k104b, k108, t604 and t608 and the list goes on,,, go KENWORTH the real mans truck.

This one was repainted years ago, according
to the tag it was originally in earth moving
equipment. Only the new cummins are
red, the original color back then was a
tan color.

How do those old things start? It sounds like the starter runs for a second before it turns the engine over.
Maybe you could tell a newbie what you're doing there...

Hi,
The starter sounds that way because this
engine has a compression release that
I pulled before I engaged the starter.
The engine gets rolling easier, then
I let the compression release go, and the
engine fires.
Not all cummins engines had that, it was
an option. Engines without it could be hard
to start on a cold day.

must be 24Volt starter, sure spun er over, the way i like it
dalekrueger 3 years ago
No, its 12volt. I got rid of the
series-parallel switch for sake of simplicity.
The compression release just does a good job.
