E.C. Attends to Dog Poo in a Park in Dublin, Ohio

Even if someone did spray-paint "Clapton is God"
on the wall of Islington underground station in 1965,

and then later all over London, a summer of graffiti
from the heart; even if your album Fresh Cream

meant you were the rage in a hip New York City
in 1967, and so went clubbing with Jimi Hendrix

who you say "played out of his skin, every time
he picked up his instrument, as if there was no

tomorrow," and even if Muddy Waters called you
his adopted son — even if the Quiet Beatle George

Harrison made sure you tripped your first time to
an acetate of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,

even so, you've got to bend and and bag it, the turds,
twist-tie the sky-blue plastic and mutter the word sod

because you've gotten a wee bit on your right hand.
Which interrupts "Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee,"

a tune you were humming as you went, the red leather
pet leash going slack and jerking you back to a place

where time passes slowly if at all. If you are happy,
twenty years sober, royalty in the court of the blues,

there's still the matter of what's on your hand. Not a
loo with running water anywhere for miles. No, sir.
