Chapter 15




Sterling.
Sterling stretched his legs best he could in the

cramped plane seat. They were travelling incognito

in a passenger plane to avoid the paps. He turned to

Demi. She had dozed off. He examined her closely.

She really was a beauty. He glanced at her middle.

It was hard to tell she was expecting at all.
Sterling remembered back to when he first met her.

Casting had just about wrapped for Sonny with a

Chance and he entered the room for the first time

to read lines with Demi. The director wanted to see

if the two had chemistry together. Sterling had been

waiting in the casting room, wondering what Demi

would look like. She walked in, and Sterlings first

impression was that she was drop-dead gorgeous. Then

she smiled at him, and her smile seemed to light up

the whole room.
Demi.
I guess I should have paid attention to the

signs Sterling looked at her. Huh? What

signs? Demi looked down and smiled sheepishly.

WellI hadnt experienced my monthly cycle in

four months, and that shouldve been a tip-off right

there. Demi stopped and looked at Sterling to see

if he was following her. He had a completely blank

look on his face. You want me to explain?

Sterling colored. No, just go on. I have a feeling

I dont want to know. Demi continued. And then

theres the morning sickness. I should have taken a

hint. I never get sick like that! My mom says I have

a pretty strong immune system, you know. Thats

cool. Demi rolled her eyes. Really, Sterling. If

you want to be a doctor, you need to know this

stuff! Sterling smiled widely. WellIm not

going to be a doctor unless my acting fails me. And

I doubt it will. Especially when Im on such a great

show with such a great girl, Sterling finished. He

wiggled his eyebrows and Demi laughed.
Sterling.
The plane landed smoothly and Sterling helped Demi

up. They quickly made their way through the busy

airport, only stopping to pick up their luggage.

Outside, Sterling tried unsuccessfully to hail a

taxi. Demi, having been to New York on many

occasions persuaded him to let her try it. She

stepped into the street and yelled TAXI! at the

top of her lungs. Sterling stood on the sidewalk and

smiled in disbelief.
On the way to the hotel, Demi pointed out various

landmarks, and gushed over the lush, green scenery

of Central California. Meanwhile, Sterling poured

over various maps and house plans. You know, I

think we should rent. Sounds much cheaper. And we

could get a loft like house youve been telling me

you want Demi considered. We need to get a car

first though, dont we? Working our way upstate by

taxi isnt exactly what I had in mind. Right. We

could get a rental car, I guess Sterling furrowed

his brow. They were at the hotel now, and the taxi

driver had unloaded their luggage. Demi and Sterling

got out, and quickly tipped the driver. Then, they

entered the hotel, checked into their room, and ate

at the little restaurant downstairs. Inevitably, a

small crowd of fans were waiting downstairs as they

entered the dining room. Sterling and Demi

immediately separated, Demi greeting her fans

politely and Sterling going back upstairs to borrow

one of Demis many wigs. He reappeared shortly

thereafter wearing a mullet.
Demi.
Demi settled herself in a quieter corner of the

restaurant. She looked up and did a double take.

Sterling was wearing aviator glasses and her mullet.

She laughed. Really, Sterling? A Mullet? Sterling

grinned. Of course! Where did you get this thing

from, anyways? Oh, Miley gave it to me. I think

she got it from her dad or something, Demi replied.

I think we may have to switch hotels soon, the

fans are onto us. Agreed.
