I really wish there was a 'before' to how humanity ended up underground and how society ended up being controlled by drugs, robots and black people only being holograms

Yes..it is not a title that I would throw out there to friends or acquaintances wanting a feel-good throwaway flick to watch. It is one I recommend to those who want a weird, cerebral film to view.

quite disturbing movie, shame that lucas never was this brilliant again! he had some hights, but more lows! this is a need to see movie! absolute great, even when you only can get the reworked version!

Very true...I even think the re-released version is better. The new addition of FX is really well done. It does not look visually out of place, and, in certain scenes, adds to the anxiety Robert Duvalls' character feels.

true, the cgi is better then most stuff in the new star wars movies and the amped up versions of the old ones!
the movie is great, but it's one of these right mood flicks, otherwise it can be very depressing! don't you agree?

With all of the surveillance in this society and recording of conversations I get the impression these confessionals are meant to placate the confessor and not necessarily spy on them further that seems inconsistent.

To placate the confessor is surely one of the reasons for the booths. But it also a total surveillance society. People would confess things there that they may never touch upon in converation outside the booth. One cutaway shot shows a tape recorder and there is also a part where what THX has said is being run through a stress analyzer. I think it would be inconsistent if this weren't another means of spying.

also the "what's wrong" sample used by Orbital and Richie Hawtin on his debut FUSE album.
