1945: BBC Radio announcement of Adolf Hitler's death

It does exactly what it says on the tin really. This was first broadcast on May 1, 1945, one day after Hitler and Eva Braun committed suicide and the same day that Joseph and Magda Goebbels did likewise. This was the first time that the good news reached any Allied country. The photograph is the front cover of the American war-time newspaper "Stars & Stripes" published on May 2, 1945.

There is no sound for the first five seconds or the last 20 seconds. Sorry about that.
