  • I'm playing this song at all state orchestra in kentucky. im a cellist and would like to play the cello solo. any advice?

  • Un peu de musique douce pour s'endormir le soir

  • I like the siren in the middle xD But I love this performance for sure!

You're right, in the one or two recordings I've heard of the composer playing his own music, he played very fast indeed, whereas the modern style is to dra-a-a-ag out the phrases and "chord worship" (as fans of barbershop harmony used to say). I like the music to be fast enough so I can at least detect the tempo and melody, although a "little" chord worshiping might not really hurt, I suppose. Not too much, though! This recording sounds just right to me.

I believe way too many play his songs way too slow. Grieg himself used to play his own songs very fast, and I'm pretty sure he wanted to play them even faster than he himself actually could. I really enjoy it when they are played with some speed. It sounds more lively then! =D

  • I really love this, this is the best composition is played so beautifully.

  • This is a refreshingly lively and energetic performance of a piece that has too often been played with excruciating slowness. My ideas about the ideal approach to this composition have been challenged here, but that's a good thing. It is played much faster than I've ever heard it, but there is no leaden tempo or indifferent counterpoint, which have marred so many other performances that I've heard.

The entire suite is played beautifully in these videos. Thanks for posting them!
