In June 2008 the Museum of Contemporary Art held a two hour discussion regarding the art work of Bill Henson. These are the introductory comments by Julian Burnside QC.

  • As an artist I would not work with children or animals, we got cgi.

  • artistic freedom is not as important as protecting children from exploitation. period. do people even know who they are trying to protect their children from? heads up parents - they are everywhere, and it is the job of people like me to try and integrate them back into society (as best we can) and believe me, they do not need encouragement. time to draw a line in the sand people

  • I dont, but the way henson shows it, it certainly is. There is that one photo he made where one child has their hand on another childs buttocks. Please tell me how thats not sexual.

  • If you think nudity by default is sexual, you are a fool.

  • Children cant consent to anything sexualised, simple as that. Nudity is included in that.
