  • so i have ridells? with mirage blades im working on axels and doubles is there a difference between how you tie basic skates and how you tie advanced skates?

  • Natures WildFlower,

There should not be a vast difference between the way you tie basic and advanced skates, except for the fact that the materials will be different and therefore the lace tension will have to change to continue to give maximum support AND forward flex. There are many ways to lace the top cuff, and we will cover these in an upcoming segment.

  • I was told and i have seen that i really need a tight fitting skate, but I know that i need some flex at the top a bit because i am working on stroking and one foot glides. so if i really tighten it at the top will i still be able to flex for keeping my knees bent?

also can you please show how you would do it if you were lacing your own skates on your feet? becasue what you show is how people do it for other skaters

  • Panditha666,

Lacing towards the top of a boot entirely depends on two things: 1) the skater's preference and 2) the structure of the boot.

In short, there is no correct tightness for lacing towards the top. A good rule of thumb is that you want to go as loose as you can while still having great support - you don't want to cut off circulation and you also want your ankles to share some of the work along with your knees and hips!

    Hope this helps!

  • I'm almost ashamed to say that I've been skating almost half a year and this video has showed me how to really lace my skates properly.

Do you have to lace the hooks from the top down? Or is it okay to lace them from the bottom up?
