Ethnic Kazakhs descend from the ancient Turks, and over the Middle Ages they got mixed with Tatars, Kypshaks, Ogys and many other mostly Turkic people in Central Asia. Then starting from XVIII century some parts of Kazakhstan started getting colonized by Russians. You know what happened next.
