@baracine I just read Jocoby's book. She spews nonsense & has the intellectual depth of a snot rocket. She can't even gets the facts straight. Let me know & I will teach you some lessons that this knuckle head couldn't figure with all her years of "intellectualism" & "rationality". She's a raging hypocrit to boot. I finished the book simply to give myself an exercise in understanding "liberal" illogic and lunacy. No wonder you guys are nuts. You read nonsense & tell yourselves it is brilliance.

Susan Jacoby is an american.

LOL So true...
-
"the FOLKS she's concerned about..." haha. you should read the first chapter of her book.
-
The absurd thing is that she publishes a book and goes on csapn2 to challenge anti-intellectualism in America. It doesn't seem like a very effective strategy to me. I'm confused why she thinks a book is a way to counter this problem when the folks shes concerned about don't read books. Where is her blog? Where is her YouTube channel? YouTube is a great place to challenge anti-intellectualism.

Thanks for the following comment - it is one the most thoughful and accurate responses to
"Wow, I just canceled my sub to Reason. If he can do no better than to formulate a position based on what 'his kids' are doing, that publication is in trouble. He misses so many points by SJ as he scrambles to insert clearly UNreasoned 'opinion' that this was really painful to watch. Nick, I'm afraid that you are, in fact, part of the very problem SJ so eloquently describes! a video I have seen."

dfarmer: But if we allow language to derail in a way (which is indeed happening here) that we lose grammatical differentiation and fine tuned alternative terminology in order to distinctly communicate with one another, than we are going backwards in our linguistic evolution and with that cause misunderstandings and social wars.

good interview
I read the book and it's wonderful. I wish every one would read it, but of course that's impossible because Americans are so dumb.

Wonderful!
I'm reading her book right now. I started it yesterday. So far I appreciate much of what she writes, although there are some points she makes, mainly in regards to language, that I am less concerned about than she. Language drifts. I'm fine with that; I don't necessarily see language drift as indicative of intellectual decay, as Jacoby seems to imply in her book. That said, I do absolutely share Jacoby's concern with growing anti-intellectualism.
