A Tribute Music Video, honoring the brave souls lost in the Space Shuttle Program. Video features the song "Countdown" by RUSH. All footage is of the STS-114 Launch.

BACKGROUND:
STS-114 was the first "Return to Flight" Space Shuttle mission following the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. The Space Shuttle Discovery launched at 10:39 a.m. EDT, July 26, 2005. The launch, 907 days after the loss of Columbia, was approved despite unresolved fuel (ECO) sensor anomalies in the external tank; those anomalies had prevented the shuttle from launching on July 13, its originally scheduled date.

  • Did you add the commentary separately or is it part of the song? It sounds like the STS-1 commentary.

  • Commentary is part of the song and yes, it is from STS-1. The fun was syncing the video with both lyrics and the embedded commentary.

  • ... DID YOU MAKE THIS VIDEO??? IT"S AWESOME!!! ..... such an unlikely RUSH song but I get thrilled every time I hear it, SIGNALS—my favorite RUSH album takes me to Lear Days, good times

  • NASA USA STS-114 Return to Flight

  • "Technology high,

On the leading edge of life"

And look where the Shuttle Program is now.

One of Rush's finest, just a pity NASA couldn't keep up.

  • Nice

  • Nice editing job, gitter.

  • Nasa Simply the best. One place where ability still comes first.

  • I just met one of those astonauts on this flight, Wendy Lawrence.. Man I'm so jealous! What I would give to see the Heavens and the Earth with my own eyes as they did!!!

  • A long time ago I thought I read that Rush had been present for the launch of STS-1, and that they were inspired to write this song, which was released on the 1982 album Signals. The audio samples in the song are all from STS-1, including Young and Crippen's radio comms. Awesome job, dude, this vid rocks.

  • very good job.... BUT.... i was disappointed to notice you didnt include grisson, white and chaffe of apollo 1 at the end as well as the shuttle crews....

  • I like what you did with this. I actually was present for this launch and really enjoyed watching the scenes put to the audio and music. Well done!
