This was the creative portion of the test I had to design for my 2nd Dan test. Much of what is there came from my training in Hapkido and Judo at my college here in Korea. It's difficult to appreciate the details of each technique because they were all done so quickly. 6 consisted on different unarmed attacks, and 3 consisted of defense against a club.

  • Thanks for posting :) I have to do some creative Self-Defense and breaking for TKD also. You've given me more to think about. I like the ending :) ...you guys don't have mats?

  • @tkdistsuper Thanks for the comment..this video seems long long ago :) The floor is padded. The concrete base is covered with rectangular judo-type mats, and then all of that is covered with this wood-colored covering.

  • third one was a fireman's throw am i correct? at least that is what we call it at my school =/

  • @ZaneBoven

To be honest I really don't know what it is called, I just picked it up while taking Judo at the university I was training at.. There is a Korean name (which I believe was really a Japanese term) but I cant recall it at the moment.

  • It's very hard to see TKD performed in the context of 'real life'. Most of the video footage is with an emphasis on good looking flashy kicks. Not to disrespect the art form, but it's nice to see the application of self defense. Thanks for posting.

  • Just to update, this video is more than 2 years old. Since that time I have begun training at a MMA gym here in Korea. I find the MMA training a refreshing change from the typical TKD environment. No matter what I study I will always define myself as a TKD guy. Like everything, MA's are evolving, and TKD is evolving as well. People give TKD alot of crap, and some of it is deserved but much of it is based on a misunderstanding of what TKD is, which is different for every person who practices it.

  • @coralreefer That's different from what I'm used too. I was thinking you were doing this test at a church, instead of a regular place/gym, so that's why you didn't have mats. The wood-colored covering makes it very dramatic :)

  • Great job man. Thats a nice example whats the benefits from a sphere view to martial arts can do while u practiced Hapkido and Judo with Taekwondo based knowledge. Im working on my 2nd dan in December in ITF and looking forward to practice Ju Jitsu. Keep fighting ;)

  • Some really fun moves in this video, coralreefer. Nice test, at least for that portion. Congrats.

  • I hold dan rank in TKD and Aikido, and I've seen a lot of people from both arts who can't fight their way out of a paper bag on the street. The cream always rises to the top, regardless.

  • great job. for those who bash tkd, remember, it's the man, not the art.

  • this is not really a tkd. It is more hapkido . I fight a tkd guy but he doesn't know now to defend himself. Im a aikido-ka
