This is a robot arm bowling competition using DENSO 6DOF robot arms. The video was filmed for the CMU Manipulation class that was taught by Matt Mason (director of the CMU Robotics Institute) himself!

Each team programs an arm to do two tasks:
- Try to place all three of its pegs in the opponents' goal
- Block opponent pegs from going in your own goal

  • cool...r u on facebook?

  • @qrazaaq yea, just search for societyofrobots

  • hey palmisano i have a question,

After collage and these interesting classes, what do you do for a living? is it robot related?

  • I make robots for a living, silly =P

For example, I do robotics research for the Navy, among other things.

  • Glad to see they finally got some new arms in that lab. Let me guess: you don't have to hope they magically recalibrate correctly every time you use them?

  • hmmmm those arms have been there for at least the last 5 years . . . I *think* there was an autocalibrate feature, but I honestly don't remember, its been too long . . .

  • hey...i needed ur help...im doing my undergraduate course in electronics and communication engineering(B.Tech)...i m very interested in robotics field...can u give me suggestion how much robotics is related 2 mi field n is there any scope fr me in robotics after completing gradustion in my field like in M.Tech degree...i'll try 2 learn from ur website in my vacations...i still have 2.5 yrs left till i am graduate in electronics...r dere any other gud sites u want me check inot?...plz reply...

  • This isnt bowling, its just stupid.

  • is this the Japanese version of bowling?...

  • this is neat. I wish our engineering teachers would do stuff like this once in a while. Actually, I'd settle for just learning something in general... haha

  • Indeed (the lab is more than 5 years old); there used to be lines drawn in marker across the arm joints so that you knew if they were correctly lining up across calibrations.
