Basically a re-make of Episode 1, with real life footage.
A lot of people claim that since past episodes are 3D representations, therefore are fake or innacurate.

I know the difference would be much different if surface was wet, oily, with gravel, mud, etc... My videos are based on day to day conditions.

Also I´m just trying to make a single point : "It is possible to stop on a shorter distance without ABS"
I know it lets you steer, and all that stuff, but right now I´m not dealing with it (maybe later). ABS is a safety feature but it always comes to the driver to manouver correctly under dangerous circumnstances and take the right decitions to avoid an accident. (like lowering your speed if road is on low traction conditions, or not speeding while getting to a blind intersection, etc...)

Here´s me demonstrating what I´ve shown in previous episodes. I´m the driver.

Notes:

- In 2nd Threshold braking, I missed my braking point (a bush I used as reference) so I had to brake a bit harder, you can see ABS is disabled because on the last second my rear wheel locks.

- I changed locations because the tests where on different days, I have to find a nice lone road to do them, and the tests of threshold braking I made on the 1st location lacked a lot of references and was very hard to brake always at the same speed, also I had less road to speed up and keep that speed before braking.

- I lose speedometer when I disable ABS, how do I know I´m reaching the same speed? well, I perform an ABS test and look at the tachometer to see how much revolutions at certain gear I need for that particular speed (in this case it was 3500 revs in 2nd gear for 55-60 kmph)

- The voice is all weird because its from a text to speech engine, it is not me talking. I wanted to narrate stuff instead of typing everything like on past episodes.

The car is a standard production car. Opel Astra with stock brakes, braking pads are not new (in fact they need to be replaced)

Wheels are Michelin hydroedge, which are great to avoid hydroplaning and they´re very hard, so they last a long way. There´s no flat stop after the full lock test.

  • There are at least three studies which show that drivers' response to antilock brakes is to drive faster, follow closer and brake later, accounting for the failure of ABS to result in any measurable improvement in road safety. The studies were performed in Canada, Denmark and Germany. Search for "Risk Compensation"

  • Who actually cares???? The point of ABS is that you can remain in control of the vehicle while braking.... Not stop shorter. A company would not develop and implement something into a vehicle if it made it more unsafe.... The more unsafe the vehicle is, the more accidents occur with them, which means the insurance companies charge a fortune to insure that model which means reduced sales..... Geez!

  • @larsagi2008 Actually its been proven that the most safety features a vehicle has, the more careless the driver gets. People get airbags, they tend to ignore seatbelt and go faster since "airbags will save them", they get traction control, they start slaming the gas on water/ice, they get ABS they speed around and slam the brakes ... I know not everyone, but its a tendency. Not that the car is less safer.. just drivers depend more on these systems instead of driving appropriately.

  • How did u DISABLE THE ABS ? Does it have a button or fuse ?

  • @ggeennttii0033 I had to remove 2 fuses on my car to disable ABS. However I had to reenable it because my speedometer and odometer depend on it. I need to figure out a way to disable it without losing the odometer.

  • watch?v=a47jUP9cB_k - Again, second 43. There's not much time before he brakes, until he flies into the trench. Notice the front wheel pointed on the road axis(countersteering), but it was too late, the wheels locked.

watch?v=PNR2oHqR0Ic - Here I guess you would have had time to regulate the brake pedal to brake, but seeing that f-ing truck sideways in front of you... Oh well, adult diapers are made for this.

And let's don't forget that 90-95% of drivers panic through the whole brake.

  • @Bogdan1Boggy Great vids. Now a days ppl just bash me so I don't even bother to reply. 1st and 2nd vid are definitely drivers fault... I mean, the honda was an idiot for trying to overtake like that, and the small white car was tail gating as hell, so well, ABS was just an assist for an accident waiting to happen. The third video, well.. that accident was completely unexpected. Yes ABS works, but just as you showed, cases are limited to real unexpected events, mostly its just dumbass driving.

  • Remeber, abs is NOT desined to make your car stop FASTER, It's desined to stay in CONTROL of your car.

  • What you say about slaming the breakes vs lightly pressing them to avoide locking makes sense. However, during day to day driving, call it reflex if you will makes us slam the breakes in a paniky situation. This makes ABS an important feature to have. As far as the on/off switch is concerned its ok to have as long as it is idiot proof. We do not want one to crash and then say OOPS I thought i had ABS on.

  • @julesTEO if you disconnect the abs sensor from just one of the wheels, you will get the abs warning light stay on in your dashboard and very probably have your abs disabled.

in order to further increase the effect of what you're saying, if would be nice to see a comparison on braking on snow/ice.

  • @julesTEO most people dont even know what ABS does so that study is full of shit

  • @ggeennttii0033

Many ABS systems will go into disable mode if you disconnect one wheel speed sensor. A malfunction light will probably come on.

It's important to understand how these ABS systems are triggered, they help a lot if you drop one side of the vehicle off the pavement into mud and hit the brakes, but if you hit a chunk of mud with one wheel on pavement the ABS will prevent you from skidding that one wheel and can extend stopping distance by 10 to 20 feet!.

  • like if you watched 1-4 in order

  • Abs sensor suck,, the sensor are like 200 dollar a piece
