Chico City Firefighter Mike Watner performs a quick forcible exit through a wall using a haligan tool. Mike inserts the fork end of the tool into the wall between two studs and the sinks it al lthe way down and uses the leverage of the handle to rip open the Drywall quickly. Once this is done he opens up the other side by kicking a opening and then quickly dives in between the studs and exits the room. You may notice mike is not wearing an SCBA during this training but it can be while wearing one. once the opening is made there are several methods to pass through the wall depending on conditions of the room, flashover possiblilities and sizeof the firefighter. just another tool for your toolbox. stay safe!

  • should practice blacked out with an airpack, and not standing up. if you actually ever need to forcible exit you can bet that you won't be standing

  • Sweet video! The Haligan is such a versatile tool!

  • When you have time in your training and a sheetrock wall, try one horizontal axe swing 3-5' high, break a stud, one about 6" off the floor to separate the stud from the footer, and "deploy idiot" through wall. Not pretty, but it takes a very few seconds and gets you out. If you have the time, you can bust the drywall on either side of the broken stud and make a nice 32" wide door for yourself. Of course what works best is personal and dependent on the tools at hand, the situation, & material

  • THE LARGEST AXE IN THE WORLD. If you would like to see the second of its kind made, The largest axe in the world, please go to ebay, and in the search box, type in: 130569369041. It would make a wonderful addition to a collector's arsenal, or a retiring gift for a fireman leaving the force, or a gift for the winner of a lumberjack competition. If you are the type of person that likes to have something different than others, this is for you, it has SERIAL NO. 2, completely hand made, US

  • Great technique! Gonna give that a try.

  • Everyone seems to be a critic these days rather than taking this 35 second clip as a perfect training aid. You can and should "what if" situations all day. For the moment and for this clip, appreciate the fact that you now have one more way of preventing your ass from barbequeing itself.

  • may get complicated if you have to break through a brick wall

  • great technic

  • good technique, too bad bigfrank944 is too badass and salty to appreciate ot

  • what a hero

  • How many calls does chico fire department averagley get in a day?
