The mealy bug eggs come in the product(food)
Freezing the product overnight works well as one poster suggested..but I put 3 bay leaves in whatever I am storing and it works like a charm. Bay leaves are a natural insecticide that is perfectly safe. I bleach my cupboards out 2 times a year as added security. Mealy bugs are pretty easy to get rid of, make sure you use up any opened boxes of food quickly before they find more breeding places. This is a common problem. Good luck!

I always put my flour, cornmeal, and mixes that I am going to store in the freezer before they go in my pantry. Being from the South I have found that the only way to prevent mealy bugs. The tip about the bottle with some vinegar is what I do to catch them. It works well with fruit flies too.

oh good ol nancy keeping us on a cliff hanger!

if it's fruit flies then what works for me is put either a piece of fruit or small amount of wine or small amount of vinegar in a glass, cover the jar with a piece of plastic wrap, poke small holes with a toothpick near the middle and place on window sill or where the flies seem to want to fly, the flies are attracted to the smell will go inside the jar through the holes and can not get out. You should try this method if the fly strips fail. Please keep us posted.

That's what my sister had. She has had a time getting rid of them! I'll check with her and see if her issue is cleared up yet and tell you what worked best for her!

you mean fruit fky's they come when fruit is left out to long or food and tea bags and coffee grounds are left out thats what happend to Stephens old apartment.
I use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of fruit flies. I find that the best way! These moths are the ones that live in grains and eat it all up!
