This song is really great, so powerful, meaningful I can't believe that it was a B side to, after 20 years still rocks, Fish one of the greatest Progresive Rock Singer!!!

@MrHotrox23 They did for a couple of years. 86-88 they were a reasonably big act across Europe.

Why did this band never hit the big time, when you see the crap doing it today they had such a cool sound very unique such a shame

It seems a shame that Freaks was only released as a B-side back in '85. I think it was because Marillion wrote and produced it around the time of "Misplaced Childhood" and it didn't fit the storyline of the album. It's hard to say if Freaks would have fitted on any of the Fish-era albums. Maybe Fugazi, possibly. I consider it their 6th or 7th strongest song. It should probably have been released instead of "Heart of Lothian", which really was an album-only song in my opinion.

Freaks was a single in its own right, it came out in several formats, 7in 12in and Picture Disc!! Its a great track and deserved to do much better!!

this is not from "The Thieving Magpies". this is from other live album - "Garden Party"'85. "Freaks" in "The Thieving Magpies" is performance different than this. but the both are good! :)
