The-Republican-People's-Party, notorious for its staunchly secular movements in Turkiye, now faces the risk of closure due to illegal money transfers made to the neo-nationalist TV network Ka-nal Tou-rk. The Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Prosecutor said all documentation was sent to the Constitutional Court. It is said that there are similarities between this case and the former prime minister's party's case which ended up with disbandment. ///

Presently, Turkiye's pro Kurdish Democratic Society Party and the ruling AK Party are in jeopardy of closures by the Constitutional Court over allegations of separatism and anti-secularism. Now another opposition party, The CHP, is on the verge of a closure following the Finance Ministry's complaint against the party with regards to a 4 million dollar transfer the party made from its funds to Kanal Turrk.

During the audits of the account experts from the tax department in 2004 and 2005, it was found out that no invoices were issued for the money transfer of 4 million dollars out of 5.5 million dollars. Although the deputy leader of the CHP, in a press conference over the issue late last year claimed that this money was paid for future ads and commercials, the owner of the network, Tuncay Ozkan, interestingly, in a statement said his television network was "at the CHP's service.

Ministry of Finance applied for the judiciary and the documents displaying the illegal relation between the CHP and Kanal Turk were forwarded to the Supreme Court of Appeals in March 2008.

In the natural flow of the legal process, the Supreme Court will take the CHP under fiscal examination through further audits. If the court finds malpractice and embezzlement on the CHP, it should file a case.

Meanwhile, the fact that the legal complaint about the CHP forwarded to the Supreme Court of Appeals last year has not been processed by the chief prosecutor is thought to be against the law itself.

In the event the court convicts CHP leader Deniz Baykal, he might be disbanded from politics just like former Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan, the leader of the closed Welfare Party.
