Yeah sure. I didn't try recently but when I did years ago, it was more than 2 hours of compiling, apt downloading, manual reading blablabla and all I got was a fucking 3D Demo of some cube running on the GPU. I hate fanboyism. I'm an IT Consultant and I have to stand people with Macs and their undying love for it even though it's horrible with printers (e.g). I don't LOVE any OS. I've tried most of them and they're good in some stuff but bad on other .There isn't the ULTIMATE OS. Sorry to say.

I agree with you, There is no Ultimate OS. That is why having freedom of choice is good.
With windows or OSX, you are stuck with a company and you have very little choices. Open source increased the choices even for users of those OSes.
Linux is all about freedom. Desktop? What about Gnome, KDE, XFCE, LXDE, enlightnment?
It comes to what you want to do with your machine, Everyone has different preferences. Having the liberty to tailor your OS exactly how you want it is what Linux offers.
