Windows Live Messenger allows you to stay more connected to your social networks and friends. With the Messenger, you can easily view which of your friends are online and send them private messages. 

Double-click on a friend's name to start a private chat session.

You can also Switch to full view, which will make the Messenger window larger. 

Here, you can see more updates from the social networks you're connected to. You can even update your Facebook status from this page. You can also check the MSN Network by clicking on the link at the top. Here you can find the latest news, check your Hotmail, see the Weather forecast and more. 

You can set your status as Away, Busy or Offline if you wish to be invisible to the rest of your network.
