The goal of IQ2 US is to raise the level of public discourse on our most challenging issues. To provide a new forum for intelligent discussion, grounded in facts and informed by reasoned analysis. To transcend the toxically emotional and the reflexively ideological. To encourage recognition that the opposing side has intellectually respectable views. To engage the live audience as active participants who will ask questions and decide which speakers have carried the day by voting on the motions both before and after the debate.

  • If China is democratic or not, what the U.S. government has to do with it? it's china's internal affair, not yours. They are saying what the U.S. should do in USA's internal affairs? NO.

  • @annarboriter i personally think he just addicted to power and war~

  • @annarboriter

He doesn't want it to get more powerful. He wants it to remain as powerful without challenge.

According to him, every country tries to become the Hegemon, only then does it feel absolutely secure.

The USA is already there, but there are others itching to take its place. Every forward step they take is a step back for the USA.

Therefore, maintain the current distance, he says, and as a precaution, for every forward step the others take, America ought to take two.

  • "keep your Friends Close, but keep your Enemies closer."

  • The questions posed by some of the audience members gives me optimism for an intelligent American response towards the Chinese rise to greater wealth and power.

  • The US military expenditures are equal to all that the rest of the world spends. Just how much more powerful does Mearsheimer need to feel before he can relax in his notion of a hostile, competitive world?

  • Yeah that's the solution, allow it to go bust. I can't think of better way to bring about a third global war. In the midst of the collapse of the global economy as a result of the Wall Street crash in 1929, economic insecurity led to Japanese aggression in search of markets to sustain itself; Hitler came to power in the midst of economic collapse in Germany as a result of the global crash. Good one!

  • If China went bust the citizens would demand change and democracy would follow. The Commie Party is keeping people subdued with the prospect of wealth and if that were taken away the Party would be destroyed.

  • he is arguing think the worse so the worse will happen, he CLEARLY has ulterior motives..

    note his religion / race

    he needs to be persecuted

  • himeir's argument is makes no sense

id guess he's playing on emotion
