For Grace's Step Therapy bill, AB 1826, was heard before the California State Assembly's Health Committee on April 23, 2010 in Sacramento. Testifying on behalf of the bill were AB 1826's authors, Assembly Members Jared Huffman and Mike Feuer, lead sponsor and For Grace founder, Cynthia Toussaint and Chief of Pain Management at UC Davis, Dr. Scott Fishman.

AB 1826 aimed to abolish the unethical Step Therapy prescription practice (aka, "fail first") used by the health insurance industry at the cost of pain patients. For Grace is again the lead sponsor of the 2011 effort, AB 369, which will reform Step Therapy and place the power of prescibing appropriate pain medication back in the hands of the physician - not the insurance plan.
