Detailed video information below, please read:

DEMONSTRATION: Boss RV-5 Digital Reverb
SETTINGS: Using All Modes

Level - 2 o'clock, Tone - 7 o'clock, Time - 2 o'clock

ADDITIONAL PEDALS: TC Electronics Nova Delay: Set to a short analogue delay
AMP: Mesa Boogie Tremoverb: Channel 2, 'Blues' Mode
CAB: Mesa Boogie Recto 2x12
GUITAR: Ibanez RG2120X
SONG: 'Weird Fishes/Arpeggi' by Radiohead.

This is a quick demonstration of the Boss RV-5 using all the modes. It was requested by someone in a hurry, so the video doesnt follow my normal format, but I hope it remains helpful.

I am using a Mesa Boogie Tremoverb set to channel 2 'Blues' mode to produce a clean tone (again something I don't normally do, I use a Hiwatt head for my clean tone). The TC Electronics Nova Delay and Boss RV-5 are connected to the amps effects loop, in that order. The Nova Delay is producing a warm, lo fi analog delay sound, on top of which I add the various reverbs produced by the RV-5 (Spring, Plate, Hall, Room, Gate and Modulate).

I repeat the same riff from Radiohead's 'Weird Fishes/Arpeggi' from the 'In Rainbows' album (first song that came to mind, played by ear, so probably wrong, sorry!) and change the reverb mode each repeat. All other settings remain constant.

0.00 - 0.39: Guitar dry no effects

0.40 - 1.11: Add the TC Electronics Nova Delay

1.12 - 1.42 : Add the Boss RV-5 set to 'Spring' Mode

1.43 - 2.14: 'Plate' Mode

2.15 - 2.47: 'Hall' Mode

2.48 - 3.18: 'Room' Mode

3.19 - 3.51: 'Gate' Mode

3.52 - End : 'Modulate' Mode

  • do you have to use an adapter for the RV-5?. Or can you just use a 9volt battery?

  • You can do either. I run everything from DC

  • Hi man! I really love your style of playing!!!! Seeing that you have many pedals, can you recomend most the rv5 or the electro harmonix cathedral? I think i like the cathedral better. i find it less robotic. But to know what you think about it will help me. Thanks

  • I really like the RV-5, its definitely a digital reverb, but as a wide range of versatile tones. I love the modulation reverb, i use that setting around 95% of the time. I have never used a EH Cathedral so couldnt really offer any insight r comparitive view with an RV-5

  • nice vid, are analog reverb pedals much different?

  • They can be yes. Depends on the type of reverb tone your after. Analog units will be more natural, but digital reverb units can be more versatile in their range of tones but can be abit sterile, depends what your looking for really

  • like your taste in music. I got this pedal for the "modulate" which is very ethereal to me. It reminds me of the spacey subway tube sound on Coldplay's Lovers in Japan track (although that is synth but the verb is very distinct and similar to this). Thanks for posting

  • Its funny, I was looking for a demo of my favorite pedal and found one of my favorite songs being played with it

  • @FreddyKoshMusic that is not a synth they are using, it is a guitar with reverb and probably pitch shifter.

  • Hey dude. I know it's not conventionally attractive, but I totally love how all your pedals are just laying on your floor. Shows you're more about sound than aesthetics.

  • Nice Radiohead playing!

  • Thanks you for letting me listen to one of my favorite songs rather than boss's shitty marketing

  • what reverb would you recomend for ambient/shoegaze music style?

  • 2) Copy all of these steps.

    3) Go to two other video.

    4) Paste it in the comments.

  • @barstia I've had the cathedral but sold it. It has some neat features and can get some weird sounds but i found that it was way too bright and sharp for my taste. I had to roll the tone down all the way to get a decent sound. It's still a pretty good reverb but I think the rv-5 is much better and the fact that it costs less is a bonus!

  • @Beckett125 i'd have to disagree, i love EH pedals they have a lot of great applications with or without other effects
