Dude you absolutely nailed it....just great work. I've been faking my way thru it with my band for years also - hopefully I can learn this and surprise the hell out of them. Please send tab to: jeg_229@comast.net THANKS!

@ShockDoc Whatta trip. The thing about songs like "Lonely Boy" (I was about 15 when it came out) is I felt like the author (Gold) was writing the song just for me!
I think that tune by John Stewart (Music into gold?) came out about the same time didnt it?

@axslinger99 Im still stuck in the 70's too! whats weird, is I can remember exactly what I was doing those months when it was released.
I just turned 16 and was finding my teenage independence! I had just gotten my drivers license, and had my first semi-sexual experiences in the back of my 61 buick Skylark.(1-3rd base) ah, to be 16 again. "Heatwave", "You're No Good", and "When Will I Be Loved" was constantly being played on the radio at the gas station I worked at. where I met a lotta girls.

@axslinger99 lol Muscle mem is the key. It works whether a piece is practiced wrong or right...it just happens after several hundred reps...at least. Spooky (thanks to your vid) and Hotel Ca intricasies are my current nemesi. Again, tired of bluffing thru them. FIIINALY got note for note with Peterik (Ides of March) on Vehicle but still working on the speed for that one. He BOOKS thru it! Good pickin' & happy holidays.
Axslinger99. Thanks for listing this solo. This is one of my Favorites. I miss the good old days of heading to NYC and listen to lindas band (Andrew Gold, Kenny Edwards, Mike Botts). What a great band. Harmonies that melted your ears off. Musical talent that you wish you could be a part off. Andrew is awesome and I will never forget his guitar playing his white suit and the red hair and beard. He really stood out in a to die for professional way. Great class.

@97teledlx Thanks for the comments! Without a doubt, the days of well written guitar solos, with class and emotion, seem to be gone. I am still stuck in the 70's! I listen to the skill and talent of yesterday and I can't even turn on the radio today. This was always one of my favorites. Even the bands that backed up Linda couldn't cop this solo! I loved Waddy but even HE faked this solo. Andrew probably wrote this in one take...

After bluffing my way thru this lead for years, finally decided to buckle down & learn it. I put this clip into an audio program and slowed it 50%. lol Then as my fingers got smarter, brought it up to 75%...then took the quantum leap to full tempo. Thanks for putting this up and showing this ollld guy how it 'really' goes.

@MHFROX That's how I learn too; slow it down, one note at a time, wash, rinse, repeat!

@axslinger99 ... ^5 ...and repeat, and repeat and repeat and...repitition. A number of musicians have been asked if they read music. My two favorite answers are from Pete Seger and Buddy Guy. Pete said, "What? And mess up my playing?" Buddy Guy said, "Nahhh, I just wants to play somethin' makes people dance & smile. When I'm done, somebody who reads & writes this stuff can tell me what I did." lol Classic!

@MHFROX Exactly...I think that's how most music gets tabbed out...play it first, then tab it out. When I learn a complex solo, I'll play it hundreds of times if not thousands until the muscle memory sets in. The opening phrase of this solo, even though it's just a couple bends and a slide or two, is difficult to phrase properly. You really have to keep listening to the nuances over and over and then playing it over and over util it feels natural.
