NECESSITY is a "highly original" dystopian short film.

In a future landscape populated primarily by women, a trio of "Seekers" who capture feral men for breeding find a lone time-traveling man who is unaffected by the dehumanizing plant spores, but their debate about what to do with him ends in a chaos that reflects their cultural mayhem.

NECESSITY was a low-budget film made with the assistance of a mini-grant from IFCO, the Independent Filmmakers Co-operative of Ottawa (http://www.ifco.ca). It premiered on March 12, 2011 at the IFCO Annual Gala (http://bit.ly/rueU6O).

A review by Vera Grbic of the Apartment613 blog praised the short:
"Melanie Mortensen deals with the most unique idea of the festival ... a depiction of a dystopian future where 'women's order' reigns as men are zombified by a virus. Issues of gender supremacy and power are interwoven in this highly-original story." (http://bit.ly/lLz1sw)
