PeggyD64- Big Sur is so special..Deetjen's Big Sur Inn is a great place to stay while in Big Sur. Nepenthe is a landmark that can't be missed..The coast from Cambria to Monterey is just spectacular..Good luck to you..

@spartaeus Totally agree. I mean, c'mon Hawaii? What's in Hawaii? Pineapples? Please. But yes, Big Sur is prettier and I do hope it stays that way. Please Big Sur, no mass crowds or tourists to pollute the place. We don't want Big Sur to be flooded with tourists so that it becomes another...Hawaii :)

This is my dream for many, many years now. The last two summers, I set out from NY to Ca first summer I made it to Colorado (turned back), last summer made it to Texas (turned back), I just have to get there this summer. It may be my last summer (bad diagnosis) Where should I go first?

My family and I took a trip to San Francisco and Drove our way along Hwy 1 for Pismo Beach.....I SURE WILL NOT EVER FOR GET THAT! It was an Amazing sight!

hey helena....you're not bothering me.....I haven't lived there since '85 but it is so beautiful there...breathtaking! It is such a laid back place and mellow! Lots of wildlife, and you can see the Whales migrating twice a year...if you are ever in California be sure and take Hwy 1 up the coast....you'll never forget it! linda
