@musicman405040 I take full advantage of it, rest my thumb on it, Use fingers to pick, i actually think its the most helpful thing u can do to a bass
-
you would be good in a drone jam. i am working towards gettin this bass soon.. u have good feel. i like!
-
@25jonathan marcus rests the heel of his hand on it, it helps keeps his hand relaxed because his plucking technique is very compact, i have this bass and it actually helps with his style, but it does inhibit normal fingerstyle playing, fender has been putting those on their basses since the 60's or so just as pickup covers. it all comes down to preference really

@musicman405040 Its to rest your palm on to get a better angle whilst slapping
-
Hey this is cool!!
What program did you use to edit that video?
I love it!

@25jonathan Its mainly for looks
-
Cooler than a cool dream of coolness being cool times cooler than before.
-
@musicman405040 no, its a pickup shield, to reduce the buzz from the neck pickup
-
hear helmut hattler.................
Hi bassman499, this song has no title 'cause it's improvised as recorded. For me it was only to test drive this particular bassguitar and hopefully for you to enjoy!

I've always wondered what that piece of metal over the strings is good for.. can someone tell me why?

Well it has something to do with Marcus Miller's slapping technique, as far as I know it's to rest his thumb. For most bassplayers it's nothing but an obstacle.
