During the summer, the changing of the guards at the tomb of Unknown soldier and Rideau hall occurs every hour in the summer form 9am to 5pm. It is only ceremonial to keep our heritage. The RCMP are the real guardians

  • this is not called changing of the guards...that's the parade u see from 9-10 every day at parliament hill in the summer....this is called the relief of the sentries.

  • a little sloppy and out of sync, and a bit on the fast side...but not bad

  • our heritage is british. hence the british tradition of changing the guard.

  • 5there has been talk of doing the same at the war memorial in ottawa. i think they def should ! 24/7 365 a year

  • We in America have the Old Guard gaurding the tomb of the unknown 24/7. Yes even 365 days a year. It's the most disciplined unit in the world! Their second job is the protection of our capital Washington DC.

  • thats why we have the people who are dressed in their generic dress uniform with the forage caps on. They make sure that tourists and the like don' t do what you just decribed. Guards for the guards kind of deal.

  • unfortunatley The unit is training throughout the year, and many members have civilian jobs during that time as well since this is reserve units who do this every summer.

  • great video...i personally think they should really think about placing guards year-round...as a ceremonial thing...

  • They only started posting sentries at the war memorial this summer as it was vandalized in 06. Traditionally the job of a guard regiment is to protect to Monarch or in Canada the Monarchs representative - the Governor General. So having guards in such a place goes a little against the grain, but I think there was plans to have a year round guard.

  • Very nice video. someone here said this was just during the summer between 9 and 5? Why don't they do this year round like the Tomb of the unknown in Washington DC? I would think a place of honor (or for canadians "honour") like this would deserve such a guard.
