@BossGuitars Do you still have issues with the smog test? These cars are classics. Look online for used/repro engine parts or even look for a new engine. There is a large following for these cars and finding parts is becoming easier and easier. I, however, own a 1991 Volkswagen Cabriolet. While most parts are still sold, they are incredibly expensive and the ones that aren't don't have reproduction parts simply because the car really isn't old enough yet. You're lucky.

my dad just bought this kind of car, same year, and my mom is pissed because she thinks ordering parts is going to be expensive. is it difficult to find parts for this car?

this brings back memories. i had a 1976 blue convertible. loved it! it was in near mint condition when i sold it for some reason??!! i still kick myself!

All I can think of is Junkyard!!!LOL that's where I found all of my "rare" parts. Nowadays with the internet friendly vibe they might be easier to find. I've found a few good VW clubs on youtube that might be able to point you in the right direction but all you would have to do is ask!!!

Classic air-cooled VWs? Figure less than half what a comparable small car of the '60s or '70s would cost, if that. There's nothing expensive about these cars.
This one's fuel injected. Avoid the '75 and later Beetles, if you can - the injection systems are good, but spendy to fix and are near-impossible to develop any real power from.
-
Just a question , how much extra would a car like this cost to fix up? I know it varies, but like an estimate ? : )

Thanks for the comments. I've been using this car as my daily driver since 2/1/08. Never lets me down! The only real trouble I have is when it comes to getting the CA. smog test done. It fails badly every time. Seem that some of the Fuel Injection system components have failed. My mechanic says the parts aren't made anymore. :(

I paid $1,800.00 for this car. The odometer read 46,500 miles, but was broken so I really don't have any real idea how many mile are on the car. The car had been sitting in a garage for 15 years when I found it. All it needed to get it running was a new fuel pump and tires. I also put new brake cylinders, fuel, vac, and brake lines in just to be safe. The car has no rust what so ever, but does need a new paint job. The original color was orange.
