  • ive seen this guitar before, you play it just like a regular guitar except just on your lap, thats why its flat and relitivaly small. the case in my opinion looks original

  • Yeah, I mean play it well tho. I can half ass a regular guitar picking out songs, but since this has no frets, and all i have is the bar, i suck at it.

  • Google "Brad's Page Of Steel."

You'll find info and links to further info.

Supro is one of several brands that were made by Valco.

  • nice looking guitar, looks like (maybe) someone painted over the fret markers. supros are always great sounding guitars and you can learn more about them by doing a search on ebay . Joe

  • Check out "Sleep Walk" by Santo & Johnny - that's a great first song to learn. They didn't use an open E tuning, but you can play the song in open E without too much difficulty. That pickup is very good sounding with a fair amount of gain on the amp. Those Supro pickups are a favorite of David Lindley. Enjoy!

  • Rest your right hand on the top of the pickup and mute the strings with your fingers and thumb. Treat it like finger-picking an electric guitar. Using a pick on this will sound like sh*t. Don't strum it; instead try plucking two notes at a time and sliding up from below the chord you're playing. As with any electric instrument, muting is very important to getting a decent sound out of these.

  • The easiest way for a guitarist to get started on lap steel is to tune it to an open E chord. From low (heaviest) string to high, that would be E-B-E-G#-B-E. Then you can easily find all your major chords by laying the bar perpendicular to the strings and using the fret lines to keep track of where you are on the neck.

  • You play these by laying it on your lap, tuning it to an open tuning, and using that nickel-plated brass bar ("steel") to play single notes and chords. Hold the bar in your left hand with the rounded side on the strings, using your thumb, index, and middle finger to steady the bar.

  • What you have there is a Supro lap steel guitar. I can't tell what year from looking at it, but it is likely from the 50's. I've had a couple with that exact pickup and one was a '59 and the other was a '65; however, yours looks more 50's to me.

  • i guess it is a guitar lol
