the term heavy metal didn't come from steppenwolf at all,it's a scientific term to describe a family of elements. steppenwolf's hit isn't even describing the sound of their music it's describing a motorcycle with the term "Heavy Metal Thunder". steppenwolf honestly aren't any more "metal" than other heavy rock bands of the day like Hendrix or Cream or the last Yardbirds material.
