Though the verdict is still out on Ethanol as an alternate fuel source, it has some startling implications for us all.
Corn used for ethanol is expected to increase from 700 Million Bushels to 3.2 Billion. With this increase the price of corn is going up, affecting the cost of poultry, meat and corn based products.
Advocates argue that a Company such as Monsanto will build a supercrop, drastically increasing the amount of corn grown on any plot of land.
As we work at finding alternative energy sources, we need to be careful about the possible consequences.
Fact: if you replace EVERY inch of farmland in the united states and use it to make ethanol, you only reduce our demand for oil by 12%!....ethanol is NOT a solution.

Fortunately, the same corn used to make ethanol is then used as animal feed after being processed and ethanol is extracted from it.

correction, 1 gal of fossil fuel to make 1.3 gal of ethanol.

Switchgrass looks like the best alternative to corn, but Monsanto can't get paid subsidies for Switchgrass. Also, it takes roughly 1 gal of fossil fuel to make 1 gal of ethanol, is that green?

Too manufacture wind and solar systems requires energy, note solar cells that use silicon have an initial outlay of pollution exchange, but hopefully its useful life will offset the pollution
