A few lamps pointed towards where your filming would definitely help this quality.

for mindless automaton, if you have a bunch of cards that put +1/+1 counters on creatures, you can be pretty sure to never run out of cards. but is it really worth using all those abilities just to be able to draw a few cards in the game - maybe. if there were an artifact, or another permanent that you could tap mana to put a +1/+1 counter on target creature, that would be ideal. i'm sure there is one out there. also i bet this is very useful when you fail to draw a land during the draw phase.

ur right mindless automaton is pretty bad for the most part, but like you said it can be useful in certain situations, like for extra counters in a darksteel reactor deck. a cool deck to put creatures similar to frostwielder is a deck with 4x Furnace of wrath and 4x Caltrops add in things like goblin sharp shooter and maybe shock just in-case and youve got a killer spot for a frostwielder.
I'm new to Magic and I was wondering that when a card says "Deal damage to target creature or player" Do you choose who to attack or do you just attack whats available to attack?

The first one. Anytime it says deal damage to target creature or player you can choose which creature or player you want to attack.
