As Coach Javorek has demonstrated countless times with athletes all over the world, if you stay back on your heels on the way down, the weight is carried in the legs, not the lumbar region of the spine.

I went from 20lbs on the bench press and back squats and the barbell behind the head quarter squat push press all the way up to 55lbs on the bench press, 65lbs on the back squats, and 35lbs on the behind the head quarter squat push press.

I started Mr. Javorek's class at JCCC Mondays and Wednesdays at 11:00am, and when I started the class, I was tall, scrawny, 145lbs of skin and bones. Now, I'm up to 150lbs and you can definitely see the muscles building up. Everyone in the class even comments on how much I've improved - I wasn't even able to finish Complex 1 with an 8lb dumbbell at the start of the semester. Now, I can do Complex 1 all the way through with a 12lb dumbbell.

great workouts. helped me rehab a dislocated elbow in 1987. Javorek was a Johnson county commonunity college. He coached wes barnentt, dirk yasko, and other good olympic weightlifters
what is the weight that you are using. how will i determine the weight that is right for me. i start breathing really hard and muscles couldnt take it. why? do my muscles lack endurance? how do i increase it. i used 8 kg dumbbells. thanks

Thank you for the questions. The initial weight is determined by your experience and current level of fitness. If you couldn't complete the complex with 8 kg dumbbells, then yes, your muscles lack endurance and you need to start with a lighter weight.
