Melanotan I (afamelanotide) and Melanotan II Healthwatch report by Dr. Kim Mulvilhill of San Francisco's KPIX CBS 5. Dr. Kim discusses what the melanotan peptides are and what they do. A brief explanation from Dr. Robert Dorr explains how melanotan I (afamelanotide) is a hormone that tells "our skin cells to make themselves darker". Dr. Kim explains that an Australian biotech company [Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals] is developing the drug for protection against and perhaps prevention of a series of serious skin disorders. She also discusses an online community of melanotan peptide users at the website Melanotan.org who use both melanotan I and the related drug melanotan II (which is known for it's effects against sexual dysfunction). She finishes the report with a warning from dermatologist Dr. Seth Matarasso of UCSF about the unknown long term effects of any drug affecting the endocrine system. Dr. Kim finishes the report in explaining that melanotan I (afamelanotide) is experimental and human trials are still underway.
