RX8 Engine Noise Problem

RX8 04 with engine noise seemly coming from intake area, drives fine.

@yourmotherrules Took it to the mazda/volvo dealership today, said it might be the rotor tips :( not good but he was a volvo mechanic. it was compression tested 4 thousand miles ago. So i dont think its knocking but im hoping its not the tips.

@longlegz316 Of course it can knock... any combustion engine can knock. It has to do with too early combustion.

@yourmotherrules Probably he has just filled it up with too low octane fuel... that's why it is knocking. Either that or the spark plugs are igniting too early.

Probably fixed by now, but I'd like to point out that that is EXACTLY what it sounds like when my SSV is ticking. You can find out if that's it by pushing something against the actuator arm for it and it will stop when hold it tight. It won't hurt the engine to ignore it but if you want it fixed, I believe Mazda released a beefed up version some time around 2008 that's supposed to fix it.

Its your ssv valve. It opens your secondary intake ports. Look it up and youll find location. Replacement is a biatch.

its a rotary how can it knock... just do a main tune up. such as spark plugs, wires, etc...
