Many Christians live their lives with no rear view mirror because of misunderstanding the application of Philippians 3 which teaches us to 'forget what lies behind'. The calling is not to ignore our past but to work with Jesus through out past.

This sermon was preached as part of the 'Rebels Guide to Joy' sermon series at Mars Hill Church Seattle. To hear the entire sermon please visit http://www.marshillchurch.org/sermonseries/philippians/week_08.aspx

  • Jesus also said anyone who hates his brother is a murderer. Approving of stephans death though he had done no wrong is murder.

  • I love the way this guy expresses himself, he's telling the story how it's meant to be told and he delivers the message clearly and can easily get his point across. This video helps me so much i really appreciate this.

  • @combatbootstim Amen brother, Amen

  • Jesus has changed my heart from hate and is all loving.

  • Yes Jesus forgives us, but we owe it to our spouses to not put them through unnecessary pain. It is not helpful, it isn't kind. Everything else you say is right. Share sins with others and join an accountabiity group. This is where you talk about your sins. You share with people who have committed the same sin (or may be about to). You don't say, "Hi I'm Jake and I cheated on my wife." I know a recovered alcoholic who "confesses" his alcoholism as soon as you meet him. He is not "over it."

  • @swokrams58 So you suggest building your marriage on lies and sin? No Christian could possibly say that not telling your wife you cheated on her is the right thing to do. No priest offers forgiveness, It is a Catholic lie, and an abomination, JESUS offers forgiveness, not some 70-year-old guy in a booth. This has nothing to do with your wife being a saviour, It's to do with being an honest husband, If your wife cheated on you then asked a priest for forgiveness and didn't tell you, you're happy?

  • Dude,

You do not tell your wife about your infidelity. Man up. Your wife is not your savior. This is 60's bull-sht. Keep her from this pain. You owe that to her. This is not the easy way out. This is the manly way forward. My advice is to confess this to a priest. You share your sins not with your wife, but with others (men) who have made the same mistake. Confessing your infidelity to the world at large is psycho-babble and not righteous behavior.
