He is the first ever Bollywood superstar to become a Union Minister. He first handled the portfolio for Health and then took on the responsibility of handling the Shipping portfolio.
He had a rivalry with 'Amitabh Bachchan in the 70s. The confrontation scene between him and Amitabh Bachchan in the movie Kala Patthar (1979) was thought to be one the the greatest ever confrontation scenes between two heroes in a Hindi movie.
His wife Poonam Sinha has started a film production house - Shotgun Moviies and is producing the film "Mera Dil Leke Dekho".
He has a son named Kush, who is also ready to follow in his father's footsteps to become a Bollywood leading man.
