We in the dutch part of Belgium think we are living in New York. We act like it speak like it eat like it drink like it watch the same shows and movies and our political vision is that of the USE (United states of Europe). The cost of living is a bit less here though :D
The one major difference is our left wing approach. Let's say New york is closer to us than Texas :D

not strange though. We are also into Diamonds, theatre, acting, singing, future building, banking, metal, ship building and recently our fascination of everything hispanic and asian is starting to destroy us in a good way.

Yeah, I've noticed that the Scandinavians have an American accent when speaking English. I guess they get heavily influenced by Hollywood movies and tv shows.

Since when is Belgium in Scandinavia? Belgium is right across the channel from the UK (you know, "England"... where the English language comes from), and the American accent(s) came into existence by (mostly Germanic) foreigners speaking English, so it's kind of natural that someone from the part of Europe where Germanic languages (Flemish/Dutch, German, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish) are spoken have a similar way of speaking than Americans.

And since when did I mention that Belgium IS part of Scandinavia?! Maybe you should've read the comment properly as I was only referring to Scandinavians! And all the Scandinavians (not Belgians) I've met have stated that they grew up watching American shows/movies, which has influenced their accent when speaking English. And to add - the American accent is also heavily influenced by the IRRRRRish.

Your condescending tone is not appreciated. There are other tactful ways to state your message.

In all honesty, it wouldn't be the first time that we meet an American (or Anglophones in general) who think Belgium (or the Netherlands) are in Scandinavia ;)

His comment was about Flemish accents, so your direct reply about Scandinavians did give off the wrong impression.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter...

Don't worry about it. A lot of British people used to think that the Flemish spoke... Flemish. (They speak Dutch.)

Me too!, missing the 90's-2004 era! I love their other song "Not an addict".
