Hermosa 1st Ride

Hermosa is a 3-year-old Andalusian mare. I have been working with Mo on ground work and getting her started under saddle. She is a sweet, willing, and very intelligent mare. All these thing you will probably notice in the video.

The video was taken on December 14, 2008. This was the first time Mo was introduced to a rider. The rider in the video is me. The person on the ground is my trainer. We are both experienced and Mo has been very well prepared for everything we introduced to her that day.

I started with longing as I normally do. This is not in the video. (This is plenty long enough!) Everything you see in the video is exactly what we did and what happened. The only cutting was to make it short enough for YouTube. (and to take out boring excess standing about and repetition) If you have any questions about anything I did or anything that happened please feel free to ask or send me a message.

She was extremely calm, willing, and relaxed about the whole thing. She picked up very quickly to listen to me as the rider and not to the person on the ground. Her biggest concern seemed to more on her own hair. It was brushed out even more beautifully, but the wispy ends seemed to keep tickling her. So, if you noticed her shake her head here and there just know she is rearranging her lovely lady locks.

All in all you really could not ask for a better start. She was a shining star on her first day under saddle. Her mom and I were very proud. (and continue to be)

I do jump and have jumped. I do not do it often, nor is that something I train in or train horses for. So, yes I do jump, and would loved to do a bit more fo experience, but dressage is more my 'thing'.

Its been such a long time since ive seen any new footage from you. Its great to see some again ive missed it. Shes a stunning mare and took everything in so well will you continue helping to train her up and riding her to.

Thank you. Yes, I will continue working with her until her owner tells me otherwise. I think things are well and the owner is pleased so I hope to continue with her for quite some time.

i know of people who just hop on, and wonder why the horse reacts so badly.

also, thank you for waiting until she was three.

i know a girl who has a warmblood who is only twenty months old, and she's already been on him. granted, he's huge. but he's still a baby. it's a shame to see a horse ruined that way.

Amazing mare.

I bet she will be a grea ride once she's full broken in. She such a sweety. It didn't bother her at all. You would never have guess it was her first time!
