Well, after three attempts to upload this, here it is: Gustave's first meal of fish! I fed him these goldfish because it seemed that his diet could use a bit of a change, since he's been eating nothing but crickets and pinkies for the last few months. Remember: a varied diet for a pet means a happy, healthy pet.

The first three clips are his first fish, and the last three clips are his second fish. I was actually surprised at how easily he took to eating them.

Music used is Avarice and The Game, both of which are by Disturbed.

  • I really want a Savannah monitor for my next lizard. :3 Did you have much trouble taming yours? I haven't really seen you handle it, but they're so much fun to watch anyhow.

  • @AleakimOkibi It usually depends on the reptile, but savs and monitors in particular require a lot of handling and time for them to tame down. but once you've got them tame, they're fantastic pets, though you always have to be ready for a painful bite if the reptile is having a bad day.

  • @zillatamer mine swims pretty well...they do in the wild to get snails and small fish. I'm actually trying to teach mine to get goldfish out of an aquarium...no luck yet!

  • @packraptor1

I won't buy it if I won't take good care of it. :3 I'll come back if I have any more questions!

  • @AleakimOkibi

No problem! Take good care of it please! Monitors are my favorites!

  • @packraptor1

o.o Good to know. XD More incentive to make mine love me as a baby. Also to never approach it with fingers open. Thanks for the help!

  • @AleakimOkibi

The bite of a monitor lizard is far worse than a tegu, since monitors have jagged, sharklike teeth. An adult savannah monitor can remove a finger with a good bite, so you ALWAYS have to be careful around them. Savannah monitors in particular have strong jaws, since they specialize in taking down snails in the wild, so they have to have some tough teeth and jaw strength.

Most likely, you'll just bleed from a bite, but the other two results are still very much possible.

  • @AleakimOkibi

Also, speaking of painful bites. Tegu's have teeth that break the skin, bearded dragons don't - what about these guys? I know they have really strong jaws, and heard they were toxic (but not too much for humans to handle) but I have allergies to furred/feathered animals so I'm likely to react if it does manage to break the skin. So, am I more likely to get a broken hand, missing finger, or just bleed some if I get bitten?

Ok thanks. Handling often is no problem (and fun!), I've been bitten (for three hours straight) by a Columbian Tegu, and also tamed that very same tegu recently... :3 I love reptiles, but I've always wanted something bigger. My beardie is constantly worrying me - she loves crawling around the floor but is so small someone it likely to step on her. Not so with a full grown monitor!
