Points of Interest

Cumulus clouds are a type of cloud with a noticeable vertical development and clearly defined edges. Often described as cotton-like in appearance. Other types of clouds, such as Cumulonimbus is a type of cloud that is tall, dense and involved in thunderstorms and other intense weather.

Cumulonimbus clouds have dark bases and may be no more than 1000 feet above the Earths surface and their tops may extend upward to over (50,000 ft).


Without a continued supply of rising air, cumulus clouds begin to erode and eventually disappear. Fair weather cumulus typically have a lifetime of 5 minutes to about half an hour.
