Here is a few guitar riff's I quickly recorded using the Singstar Wireless mics for PS3.

They make a good way of basic recording if you are on a very low budget. I got mine for £27.

I used Audacity to make it and because you get 2 mic's you can set to record it stereo. Wireless is a great help, meaning I could position them anywhere. (Easy plug in and play)

I had them about 15 cm from amp (Vox VT30) and had the amp on a very low master volume.

The only editting done is a slight noise removal (very slight) and silence generating and cutting of tracks, nothing special, just a basic demo.

Hope its useful for anyone looking for a very cheap way of recording stuff.

  • can you tell us how?? please I don't know how, the computer see's it just not the voice I dont know how im using the red mic, connecting to the square thing to the usb ???

  • Yeah sorry guys.

In XP, have not tried on Vista yet.. I can't remember exactly how I did it first time round, thought it was just plug in and play.

Plug in the wireless reciever via USB, turn on the mic/s. THEN open Audacity, go edit --> preferences --> Audio I/O --> Recording Device: Wireless Mic #ANUMBER. Choose channels based on how many mics you have connected, 2 or more for stereo.

Hope that helps, if you can't see the wireless mics bit then its not installed, let me know.

  • How did got those mics working? I've tried to record my playing with them, but i cant hear nothing. I've tried using them with audacity and total recorder but none them has worked. Could you please tell me how do you record with those mics? thanks.

  • Are the old wired ps2 ones any different in quality?

  • Sounds pretty good, my bandmate has used and still uses a Guitar Hero mic for recording my band. Is there a noticeable quality difference between that and the SingStar mics?
